The Role

As a Managing Valuer, you will be based in our Commercial & Special Valuations team where you'll help deliver complex valuation programs that support government decision-making, financial reporting and strategic property outcomes. You will also have the opportunity to gain exposure and work in our other statutory valuation teams throughout the year.

Key responsibilities:

• Lead complex and sensitive valuations
• Provide authoritative technical advice
• Resolve high-risk valuation matters
• Support fair, transparent and evidence-based outcomes
• Guide and mentor staff
• Monitor contracted valuation services
• Contribute to valuation policy and standards
• Ensure customers and stakeholders receive clear, reliable and timely valuation information

About You

• Extensive valuation experience, with the capability to manage complex, sensitive and high-profile valuation matters while balancing legislative, policy and stakeholder requirements
• Strong leadership and coaching skills, with the ability to provide technical direction, develop capability and foster high standards of performance and professionalism
• Exceptional communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to explain complex valuation concepts in plain English and build confidence in valuation outcomes

Essential Requirements

• Relevant tertiary qualification that contributes to accreditation with the API or RICS
• Certified Practising Valuer (CPV) with the Australian Property Institute or MRICS accreditation with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, or eligibility to obtain within 12 months of employment
• Current driver licence and willingness to travel

About Value NSW

Value NSW (VNSW), part of the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure, delivers the valuation system for rating and taxing as well as compulsory acquisition compensation purposes via delegation of the Valuer General of NSW.

Key responsibilities and scope:

• Makes more than 2.7 million residential, rural, commercial and industrial valuations annually, with a total value of approximately $3 trillion
• Manages compulsory acquisition determinations in situations where government cannot reach agreement, totalling over $1 billion per annum
• Delivers customer services and experience for 2.7 million landholders per annum – receiving up to 50,000 calls and many more enquiries
• Monitors, assurance and governance pertaining to the quality of the valuations undertaken relevant to both the Valuation of Land Act 1916 and the Land Acquisition (Just Terms Compensation) Act 1991

VNSW also provides specialised valuation activities, services and determinations for other cluster or statewide government partners – including responsibility for delivery of all valuations for government property transactions as defined by the Government Property Framework and Treasurer's Directions as well as sector wide asset valuations of up to around $700 billion for financial accounting purposes.
