Livestock Agent

Victoriatoday

About the role

Livestock agency is built in saleyards often before daylight, around kitchen tables, and through trust, relationship and the reputation you build over time. As part of the Elders livestock team, no two days are the same. You might start the morning in the yards, spend the afternoon on-farm with clients discussing marketing options, and finish the day building relationships with buyers, processors or new clients across the district.

You'll be backed by one of Australia's most recognised agribusiness brands, while still having the autonomy and local support to build genuine long-term relationships in your community.

The opportunity

Elders is seeking Expressions of Interest from experienced Livestock Agents interested in joining livestock teams on a full-time basis across Mortlake, Camperdown, Warrnambool and the wider Southwestern Victoria region.

This is an opportunity to be part of a business that continues to invest heavily in regional agriculture and livestock agency services. Livestock remains at the heart of many regional communities and a key part of the future of Elders.

Elders is continuing to grow and strengthen livestock capability across the region and is looking for people who want to help shape the next chapter.

The region

The Mortlake, Camperdown and Warrnambool region represents some of the best of Southwest Victoria:

  • Productive livestock and mixed farming country
  • Strong dairy and grazing industries
  • Close-knit communities
  • Great sporting culture
  • Affordable regional living
  • Quality schools and genuine opportunities to build both a career and a family life
  • Within reach of Geelong and Melbourne, while enjoying the lifestyle and pace of regional communities where agriculture remains a major part of the local economy and identity
  • A region where people value reliability, relationships and community involvement

Responsibilities

  • Building strong relationships with existing and new livestock clients
  • Identifying livestock marketing opportunities across the region
  • Providing practical, trusted advice to producers
  • Working closely with buyers, processors and industry stakeholders
  • Supporting livestock sales, auctions and on-property transactions
  • Contributing to local industry and community events
  • Growing your own profile, network and reputation within the region

What we're looking for

You are an experienced livestock agent who enjoys working with a diverse team of passionate livestock colleagues. Most importantly, you'll:

  • Back yourself to build relationships and win trust
  • Enjoy working with producers and rural communities
  • Have a strong work ethic and commercial mindset
  • Be motivated to grow personally and professionally
  • Be willing to get involved and contribute to the broader branch team across Elders' portfolio of services
  • Employ or develop strong negotiating skills to bring buyers and sellers together
  • Hold a Livestock Auctioneer Licence and Assessor Accreditation, or be willing to complete free training through Elders

What Elders offers

  • Competitive remuneration packages
  • Sign-on support for the right candidate
  • Relocation and housing assistance where required
  • Ongoing mentoring and professional development
  • Access to a strong branch and regional support network
  • Career pathways across one of Australia's largest agribusiness networks
  • The opportunity to build a genuine long-term career in regional Australia
